This particular CDV-700 is made by Lionel. We have a limited supply of Lionels in excellent condition.

Prepguard has been restoring CDV-700s and other electronic testers for nearly 40 years. We are the only lab in the world to rebuild, then calibrate these and warranty them for life. We replace all "tired" components and replace them with mil-spec or ultra high quality replacements. These units are clean, battery contacts cleaned and are very safe to store at home. 

Concerned about calibration? Don't be. Our calibrations are always 99% to 100% accurate and we test them against $10,000 hospital machines.

There is a "check source" on the side of the can which gives off a small amount of beta radiation. The radiation reaches out about 1/4 of an inch then vanishes. Check source is used to "check" the unit before use to confirm it booted up.

The 700s with the chrome factory probe detect beta & gamma radiation (the two most common). Alpha probes have the red cap and are costly but alpha is generally only found near ground zero for example exploded nuclear reactors or overheated spent rod pools. Alpha is heavy and usually falls around the disaster site. Beta & gamma are the travelers.

Model 6A or 6B...which is better? That's a debate which will never end. They are both awesome and both work identical. 6A is a little tuffer, 6b is easier to repair. other than that, identical. One fault of the 6B (which we correct) is needle movements. 6B were prone to static or electromagnetic needle issues. We swap affected movements out.

• Replacing high voltage diodes
• Replacing all electrolytic capacitors
• Replacing all power supply capacitors
• Replacing all transistors
• Testing all voltage regulators for range
• Greasing rubber seals
• Testing all GM tubes
• Replacing degraded glass tube Voltage Regulators with a modern diode string. String sizes vary delivering 900v as close as possible
• Adjusting gauge needle (calibration)
• Adjusting tube/gauge needle sync (calibration)
• Adjusting High Voltage (Victoreens have this adjustment only)
